Cool Yourself Down with the Funk Hits of Heatwave at Half Note Lounge April 22

By Annamarya Scaccia

heatwaveWhen it comes to the weather, heat waves are treacherous scorchers. But when it comes to music, Heatwave is a feverish blast of cool funk and disco jams. And there is nothing like them.

Making a splash in the funk/disco scene in the mid-1970s, Heatwave will bring their smooth, high-energy sounds to the Half Note Lounge, 4881 Glenn Dale Road in Bowie, on Sunday April 22. The show starts at 7 p.m. and will feature the comedic styling of Funnyman Skiba.

Formed in 1975 in London, England, Heatwave is known for the popular top ten hits “Boogie Nights,” “Always and Forever,” and “The Groove Line,” reaching no. 5 on the U.S. R&B charts with their debut album, Too Hot to Handle and no. 2 with their follow-up, Central Heating. While disbanding in the early ‘80s, the outfit has since reunited with a new line-up featuring some original members ( co-founding member Johnnie Wilder, Jr. died in May 2006).
