The 11th Annual World Dance Showcase Moves Breathlessly Across the Stage Mar. 16
By Annamarya Scaccia
Like music and food, dance is way for different cultures to record their history.
It is an ever-evolving art form that can draw battle lines, incite passion, stir emotions, and influence decisions. Dance is a way for artists to tell their absorbing stories, never once uttering a word but always communicating their truth.
On Saturday, March 16, six multi-cultural groups from diverse backgrounds will perform traditional and cultural dances during the 11th Annual World Dance Showcase. The event, which starts at 8 p.m., will take place at the Publick Playhouse, 5445 Landover Road in Cheverly.
As in the past, the World Dance Showcase will highlight the D.C. metro area’s sweeping cultural wealth. Last year, the festival featured Bratati Saha, Rock Creek Morris Women, and Sangre Boliviana, among others.
The six dance companies chosen from the January auditions for this year’s showcase will receive a $500 honorarium.
The 11th Annual World Dance Showcase is sponsored by the Prince George’s County Department of Parks & Recreation.
