Jazz Musician Ethel Ennis Returns to Montpelier Mar. 22

Ethel Ennis’s voice is one of magic.

From the suave, sultry croons of “The Moon Was Yellow” to the sprightly, elastic intones of “I’ve Got That Feeling,” the 80-year-old jazz singer can hypnotize any room.

On Friday, March 22, Ennis will return to Montpelier Arts Center to captivate audiences with her versatile jazz style for LIVE at Montpelier!. It will start at 8 p.m. at the Laurel center, located at 9652 Muirkirk Road.

Montpelier is a familiar venue for the Baltimore native. Not only has Ennis performed multiple times at the center, she also recorded at critically-acclaimed 2005 live album there. Her illustrious 71-year career also includes a tour with Benny Goodman, a performance at former President Richard Nixon’s re-inauguration, and a slew of beloved albums including her 1955 debut Lullabies for Loser, 1957’s A Change of Scenery, and 1998’s If Women Ruled the World. She was inducted into the Maryland’s Women’s Hall of Fame in 1996.
